Taurine is a conditionally essential free-form amino acid and is the most abundant amino acid in many tissues (there are high concentrations in the brain, skeletal tissue, and cardiac tissue). Although Taurine is an amino acid, it’s not used in protein synthesis. Instead, it stabilizes cell membranes, maintains fluid balance throughout our body, and transports electrolytes in and out of our cells. Taurine is an inhibitory amino acid and helps aid in the maintenance of our calming neurotransmitters (GABA A and B). Lastly, Taurine assists our nervous system in generating and regulating nerve impulses and can aid in detoxification, bile acid conjugation, and can help control high blood pressure and arrhythmia.
